The answer to individually gluing copper tiles to the hull of a period ship. The tiles are made of copper foil with a permanent adhesive coating on the reverse. The adhesive is protected by a removable paper layer. The tiles measure 5.5mm x 15mm by 0.03mm thickness and are supplied in packs of 100 tiles.
Instructions for use
- Sand the hull thoroughlyand apply a coat of clear Humbrol enamel to seal the hull
- Start tiling from the centre of the keel
- Remove the backing paper from the first tile using a scalpel
- Carefully position the tile and press it down evenly
- In the same manner continue tiling, row by row, trimming the tiles to fit with a scalpel where neccessary
- If you are unsure of your ability to produce a neat waterline, continue tiling until you are one tile above the waterline
- Mark the waterline and apply masking tape with one edge of the masking tape exactly on the waterline
- Using a scalpel and the marked waterline as a guide cut through the tiles carefully
- Remove the unwanted portions of the tiles
- Use the back of a plastic teaspoon or similar to finally smooth down the tiles
